I'm worried about getting an IV in my arm. Does it bother most patients?
What Dr. Davidson says:
Some people struggle with the idea of an IV in the arm, but our patients will tell you that any concerns about an IV are far outweighed by the clinical benefits of normal iron levels.
The primary role of iron is to carry oxygen in the blood to every cell in the body. Insufficient iron levels can therefore wreak havoc throughout every part of the body. Often, one of the first symptoms people noticed is fatigue. The body is struggling to bring oxygen to all the cells, so the body is loosing energy. Other symptoms can include headaches, pale skin, hair loss and restless leg syndrome. If you think you may have low iron, talk to you doctor or contact us for help.

Why IV iron?
IV iron is the fastest way to treat iron, with results in 3 – 4 days and full effects felt in several weeks. It is also the most reliable way to treat iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia. It is very safe but can be associated with short-lived but unpleasant side effects. Here we outline the two most common forms of IV iron:
Iron Sucrose: older type of iron usually requires multiple infusions to get full dose.
Monoferric: newer iron, allows for full dose in single infusion.
