Vitamin D and Iron Absorption
With less and less leaves adorning trees, the weather is turning colder and the days are becoming shorter. Our warm weather routines are let go in favour of cozier rituals that keep us indoors. Less access to sunlight and in turn, vitamin D, has a direct effect on energy levels. If you are suffering from iron deficiency (ID) or iron deficiency anemia (IDA) you are likely familiar with the feeling of cold hands and feet. Low vitamin D levels are associated with lower iron absorption. This can be really tricky if you are one of the many people on the cusp of ID and fall short during our famous northern winters.
Iron infusions are a safe and efficient way to treat ID and IDA. Our patients tell us, and Google, time and time again how the infusion addressed their symptoms and improved their quality of life. Please check out what people have to say about us here. We are grateful to all the patients that have let us know about their experience publicly and have helped get the word out about the work we do at Mainline Wellness.
Here is a recent review that highlights the change patients experience:
"We need more doctors like those at Mainline Wellness! A quick and simple IV iron infusion gave me my life back after years of struggling with fatigue and not being taken seriously by many doctors due to my iron levels being just above the minimum cutoff. I was so nervous but all the staff were so pleasant and friendly and ensured I was comfortable. Thank you!"
Managing Iron Levels
If you, however, are someone that manages your iron levels well and you simply need a little winter boost with vitamin D for max iron absorption, we'd like to point you in the direction of foods that contain vitamin D. Here's a list courtesy of Sanguina:
Foods with Vitamin D
Salmon
Swordfish
Tuna fish
Orange juice fortified with vitamin D
Dairy and plant-based milks fortified with vitamin D
Sardines
Beef liver
Egg yolk
Fortified cereals
Cod liver oil
Your Daily Routine
Some of these listed foods might seem a little easier to incorporate into your daily routine than others - like a nice glass of OJ in the morning fortified with vitamin D? Yum.
